The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) is the largest educational and research institution in the social sciences in the Netherlands. The Faculty serves around 9,000 students in numerous Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Communication Science, Psychology, Social Geography, Planning and International Development Studies, and Educational Sciences. The academic staff is employed in education as well as research. There are over 1,200 employees at the Faculty, which resides in a number of buildings in the centre of Amsterdam. 

Staff of the department of Child Development and Education participates in the College, the Graduate School, and the Research Institute of Child Development and Education.

The department of Child Development and Education has a vacancy for a

Professor of Educational Sciences, in particular Learning and Instruction

for 38 hours per week

The professor will direct one of the research groups within the research programme Educational Sciences, in collaboration with other professors of Child Development and Education. He or she will promote the publication of research in prestigious journals and acquire grants for basic and applied research.

The professor will teach in the department’s educational programme within the College and the Graduate School.

Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of one of the fields of Educational Sciences, with particular expertise in the fields of cognitive development, learning, learning problems, instruction, and teacher training;
  • knowledge and demonstrable experience in Educational Sciences, including methods and techniques of educational research;
  • demonstrable affinity with educational practice;
  • lecturing experience, both in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes;
  • experience in supervising PhD candidates;
  • recognised expert in the field of Educational Sciences, demonstrated by acclaimed publications in international journals, citation index, keynotes on international conferences;
  • acquisition experience and success;
  • experience in the formation of national and international collaborations;
  • experience in collaboration with schools;
  • evidence of skills in organisation;
  • experience in (research) management;
  • excellent communicative skills.

Appointment

The salary scale is in accordance with the job profile Professor 2 (H2) of the University Job Classification System, and will range from € 4,904 to € 7,142 gross per month.
