Fourteen young UvA and AMC researchers receive Veni grant
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded 14 young post-doctorate researchers a Veni grant in order to conduct research at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) or AMC. The researchers will each receive €250,000, enabling them to conduct research and develop their ideas for a period of three years.

CHE ExcellenceRanking 2009: UvA boasts three disciplines in Excellence Group
The University of Amsterdam came out on top at the CHE ExcellenceRanking 2009 and was placed in the ‘Excellence Group' for all three disciplines assessed in this ranking. These included Economics, Psychology and Political Science.

In a letter published in this week's Nature, UvA psychologists Jelte Wicherts and Marjan Bakker criticise revised guidelines that make it more difficult to check the results of analyses presented in psychology publications.

ZonMw subsidy for research into adolescent sleep problems
Psychologist Anne Marie Meijer from the department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences has been awarded a €384,175 subsidy from the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) for research into the effects of online cognitive behavioural therapy among adolescents with sleep problems.

Bonne Zijlstra receives dissertation award
Last month Dr Bonne Zijlstra, methodologist and senior lecturer in the Department of Pedagogical and Educational Studies, was presented with the Psychometric Society’s dissertation award. Zijlstra received the award for his dissertation entitled 'Random effects models for directed graphs with covariates’, which was published last year.

The court rules... – Study assesses decision-making by full bench sections

Political scientist Mügge receives prestigious Jean Blondel Award 2009
Daniel Mügge, university lecturer at the University of Amsterdam’s Department of Political Science, has won the Jean Blondel Award 2009. He received the award in recognition of his thesis "Widen the Market, Narrow the Competition: The Emergence of Supranational Governance in EU Capital Markets", for which he was conferred a cum laude doctorate last year.

Study of ADHD in adolescents receives € 450,000 grant
UvA psychologist Dr Saskia van der Oord, Dr Hilde Geurts, Prof. Pier Prins and Ms Marije Kuin of ZonMW (the Netherlands organisation for health research and development) have been awarded a € 450,000 grant to study of the effectiveness of treatment for adolescents with ADHD that find it difficult to plan and organise their work. The training programme developed by Kuin and Van der Oord is the first of its kind to be targeted specifically at this age group.
